Park the truck on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect both negative battery cables. Allow the engine compartment and charge-air piping to cool completely before servicing. On the driver side of the engine bay, locate the cold-side intercooler pipe connecting the intercooler outlet to the intake manifold elbow. Using an 11mm (or 7/16-inch) deep socket, loosen the factory constant-tension T-bolt clamps at both the upper intake elbow and the lower intercooler tank outlet (accessible from underneath the front bumper or through the driver-side wheel well). Unseat the factory boots and maneuver the stock intercooler pipe assembly clear of the engine bay. Thoroughly clean the cast aluminum intercooler outlet neck and the intake manifold inlet elbow with brake cleaner and a lint-free cloth to remove all oil slick, grime, and road residue (any residual oil film left on the retaining beads will cause couplers to slip under boost). Slide the provided 5-ply silicone couplers loosely onto each end of the aFe 46-20109 metal pipe along with the constant-tension T-bolt clamps. Lightly spray the inside of both silicone couplers with isopropyl alcohol or aerosol hairspray to help them slide smoothly over the raised metal retaining beads. Position the 3-inch aFe pipe into place, sliding the lower coupler fully onto the intercooler outlet stub and the upper coupler onto the intake elbow, ensuring the pipe has at least 1/2-inch clearance from wiring harnesses, steering shafts, and brake lines. Position each T-bolt clamp squarely behind the raised metal retaining bead on each pipe end (never clamp directly over the bead). Using a calibrated torque wrench, tighten each T-bolt clamp nut to 9–12 ft-lbs (106–142 in-lbs) until the tension springs compress evenly. Reconnect both negative battery cables, start the engine, and perform a test drive bringing manifold boost pressure to 24–28 PSI under load to confirm zero charge-air whistling and complete boost retention.
