When descending steep grades with a heavy payload behind a 6-speed manual 6.0L, driver downshifting creates excessive clutch and brake heat. Park the vehicle on a level, solid surface, engage the emergency brake, and disconnect both negative battery cables. Measure and mark a straight 7- to 8-inch section of your 4-inch exhaust pipe downstream of the turbo downpipe along the frame rail, ensuring adequate clearance around the transmission crossmember and fuel lines. Cut out the marked section cleanly with a reciprocating saw or pipe cutter, deburring the internal and external edges of the cut pipe to prevent turbulence and seal leaks. Slip the provided 4-inch Marmon exhaust flange adapters onto the pipe ends, position the BD cast-iron brake valve housing in line with exhaust flow (noting the directional flow arrow on the casting), and clamp the assembly securely using the supplied heavy-duty stainless steel V-band clamps. Mount the pneumatic control solenoid and route the air supply lines from your existing onboard air tank to the spring-loaded actuator cylinder on the brake valve. Install the electronic throttle position switch / clutch pedal disengagement switch under the dash so the exhaust brake immediately disengages when the accelerator or clutch pedal is pressed, route the in-cab on/off toggle switch to the dash, and perform a leak check and road test under closed-throttle deceleration.
