The BD 1047170 is an adjustable wastegate kit for a 1999.5–2003 7.3 Powerstroke. It replaces the factory can on a stock GTP38 and lets you set when the gate opens.
The stock actuator creeps. The valve lifts before the turbo is done making boost, and the truck feels lazy. BD uses a larger Nomex diaphragm and a heavier spring so the valve stays seated. It is preset to about 25 psi. One full turn of the rod clockwise, shortening it, adds about 5 psi. BD says do not exceed 30 psi on the OEM turbo. The kit includes the actuator, rod end, lock nuts, clamp, and circlip.
It will not install on an early 1999. Those trucks do not have this wastegate. It is for the factory turbo housing.
A boost gauge is required to set it. Cranking the rod shut can overspeed the stock turbo. If the truck still will not build boost, check the up-pipes and the vacuum lines before you blame the can.
