The DieselSite BLANKET73 is a turbo blanket for a 1994–2003 7.3 Powerstroke. It wraps the turbine housing and keeps exhaust heat in the wheel, which is what DieselSite uses it for: faster spool and a cooler engine bay.
The blanket is lava-rock fiber. Hotter gas in the turbine expands harder, so the turbo comes up sooner. Less heat in the valley also keeps the intake charge and the nearby boots cooler. It fits a stock TP38, an early-1999 GTP38, a 1999–2003 GTP38, a Garrett GTP38R, and DieselSite Wicked turbos. It will not fit with the factory exhaust backpressure valve still on the turbo. That valve has to be deleted first.
The fiber can irritate skin the way fiberglass does. Gloves are worth using.
It does not add boost by itself. It holds the heat the turbine already makes. A leaking up-pipe will still soot the firewall under the blanket.
Fitment
- 1994–1997 TP38, non-wastegated
- Early 1999 and 1999.5–2003 GTP38
- Garrett GTP38R
- DieselSite Wicked turbos
- EBPV must be deleted
- Will not fit with the factory EBPV in place
