The Alliant AP0016 is an OEM-grade valve cover gasket external pigtail repair connector engineered for 1994–1997 OBS 7.3 Powerstroke diesel engines. It replaces the external engine wiring harness plugs that connect directly into the outer pass-through terminals of the dual-plug valve cover gaskets to supply power to the fuel injectors and glow plugs. Alliant Power manufactures this kit with a heat-resistant molded connector housing, factory-spec terminal pins, pre-terminated wire leads, and heat-shrink butt connectors.
Dead injector cylinders, cold-start misfires with heavy white smoke, inoperative glow plugs, and melted or brittle harness connectors are what this pigtail fixes. Unlike the later 1999–2003 trucks that use a single 9-pin connector per side, early OBS 7.3 Powerstrokes utilize two separate 5-pin plugs on each valve cover gasket (four connectors total per engine). Decades of severe under-hood heat cycles, engine vibration, and oil vapor cause these plastic connector clips to crumble and the internal metal terminals to spread and arc under high IDM voltage. Splicing in a new Alliant connector restores clean, uninterrupted electrical contact to the injector solenoids and glow plugs without having to replace the entire engine harness. It is the external wiring pigtail connector and heat-shrink terminal repair kit only; the valve cover gasket and internal under-valve-cover harness (UVCH) are sold separately.
It fits the external engine harness on 1994–1997 7.3 Powerstroke OBS Ford trucks and E-Series vans utilizing the dual-connector-per-bank valve cover setup.
Fitment
- 1994–1997 Ford F-250 OBS 7.3L Powerstroke
- 1994–1997 Ford F-350 OBS 7.3L Powerstroke
- 1994–1997 Ford F-Super Duty OBS 7.3L Powerstroke
- 1994–1997 Ford E-Series Vans 7.3L Powerstroke
- Navistar T444E diesel engines (early dual-connector configuration)
- Direct OEM replacement for burnt or melted external valve cover plugs
- Replaces Ford part number F4TZ-14489-AA
- 5-pin female connector configuration (2 per bank, 4 total per engine)
- Includes pre-stripped wire leads and heat-shrink butt connectors
- Pigtail connector repair kit only
Disconnect both negative battery cables before cutting into the factory engine wiring harness to eliminate the risk of accidental electrical shorts or IDM damage. When cutting away the damaged factory plug, cut and splice one wire at a time to ensure the injector trigger signals and glow plug feeds stay mapped to the correct pin locations. Stagger the cuts across the wire bundle to avoid creating a large, bulky splice ball that could rub against nearby brackets or the valve cover. Use an insulated ratcheting crimper on the supplied butt connectors, shrink the outer protective sleeves with a heat gun until adhesive flows from the ends, and verify that the mating pins on the valve cover gasket are straight, clean, and free of burnt residue before plugging in the new connector.
