The Ford Motorcraft F81Z-6316-AA (F81Z6316AA) is a genuine OEM engine harmonic balancer and crankshaft vibration damper engineered specifically for 1999–2003 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks, 2000–2003 Ford Excursions, and 1999–2003 Ford E-Series vans equipped with the 7.3L Powerstroke diesel engine. Manufactured directly to original Ford Motor Company factory engineering specifications, this OEM damper features a precision-cast steel hub and outer inertia ring bonded together by a vulcanized elastomeric rubber isolation ring. It is factory-calibrated to absorb and dissipate destructive torsional crankshaft twisting harmonics generated during cylinder combustion pulses, protecting internal engine rotating components and maintaining stability across the front accessory belt drive.
Visible wobble or axial runout at the crankshaft pulley, outer inertia ring slippage throwing off ignition/cam timing references, cracked, dry-rotted, or bulging rubber bonding material, front crankshaft seal oil leaks, chronic serpentine belt squeal or throw-off, and harsh cabin vibrations at idle or cruising speeds are what this genuine replacement balancer cures. Over hundreds of thousands of miles and severe heat cycling, the factory rubber isolator between the inner hub and outer ring deteriorates from road salt, heat, and engine oil contamination. Left unaddressed, a separated or slipping harmonic balancer can chew through front engine timing covers, damage the crankshaft snout, or cause crankshaft fatigue failure. Installing the authentic Ford F81Z-6316-AA restores original vibration dampening, factory balance specs, and true belt alignment. It is a genuine Ford OEM bare crankshaft damper assembly; the crankshaft snout bolt (F4TZ-6A340-A), crankshaft woodruff key, and front main oil seal are sold separately.
It fits all Late 1999 (built after 12/07/1998) through 2003 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks, 2000–2003 Ford Excursions, and 1999–2003 Ford E-250, E-350, and E-450 Econoline vans equipped with the 7.3L Powerstroke turbo diesel engine (externally balanced; for 1994–1997 OBS 7.3L engines, reference F4TZ-6316-A).

Park the truck on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect both negative battery cables. Relieve tension on the serpentine drive belt using a 1/2-inch drive breaker bar on the belt tensioner and remove the belt. Remove the upper fan shroud assembly and unthread the mechanical engine cooling fan clutch from the water pump pulley using a 7.3L fan clutch wrench set to clear working room in front of the engine block. Remove the center crankshaft damper bolt and thick washer using an impact socket. Attach a standard three-bolt harmonic balancer puller tool to the threaded holes in the hub face of the balancer (never use a jaw-style puller hooked around the outer ring, as this will tear the rubber isolator and damage the crankshaft snout). Slowly draw the old balancer off the crankshaft snout and remove it from the vehicle. Inspect the front crankshaft snout, keyway, and front main timing cover seal for oil leaks, burrs, or scoring; clean the snout surface with a Scotch-Brite pad and brake cleaner (replace the front main crank seal if oil weeping is present). Align the internal keyway of the new Ford F81Z-6316-AA balancer with the woodruff key on the crankshaft snout. Using a dedicated harmonic balancer installation tool, press the damper fully onto the crankshaft until it seats completely against the timing gear shoulder (do not hammer the balancer onto the crank or attempt to pull it into place using the factory crank bolt, which will strip the internal crankshaft threads). Lubricate the threads and washer face of a new OEM crank bolt (Ford F4TZ-6A340-A) with clean engine oil, thread it into the snout, and torque it to 212 ft-lbs (287 Nm) using a calibrated torque wrench. Reinstall the fan clutch, fan shroud, and serpentine belt, reconnect both negative battery cables, and start the engine to confirm zero pulley wobble and true belt tracking.
