The PHP Hydra is a J3-port tuning chip for the 1994.5–2003 Ford 7.3 Powerstroke. It mounts on the PCM and uses a two-digit switch in the cab, so you can change tunes without a laptop on the road.
It is not an OBD flash tuner. The chip plugs into the J3 connector on the PCM board. The switch has 17 positions: 00 is module bypass for diagnostics, nS is a no-start security mode, and the other 15 slots hold the tunes you load. Stock PHP files cover heavy tow, daily driving, economy, and performance, from about 25 hp on a heavy tow file up through the race files on stock injectors. Upgraded injectors need a custom file. Those are not in the standard library.
The kit includes the chip, digital switch, ribbon cable, and USB cable. HydraFlash, free for Windows and Mac, loads and verifies a position in under 20 seconds. It is PATS compatible. It does not fit a 7.3 IDI, including the early-1994 turbo IDI.

We only ship them blank. Easy to tune from home with the free software. We do ship Hydras with tunes when purchasing stage 1 or stage 1.5 injectors.

I upgraded from a SuperTuner. The tuner was good, the Hydra is great. My up-down buttons are wonky and I haven�t been able to get a replacement. Difficult to step through the tunes.

I am really happy with my purchase of this chip. It definitely drives like a different truck. Which is great! It almost trips me out because I am used to babying it, so when the rpm�s hop up as fast as they do now, it makes me a little nervous. But getting used to how it drives. Overall very simple installation, very good product.

The only reason a 5 star wasn't given was because the check engine light is staying on and my WTS light doesn't come on after the install. Besides that DAMN is all I can say the preloaded tunes make this OBS Dually smoke the tires into 3rd and almost to 4th. The whisper tune is also great to creep around late at night if need be but it does have a smell of unburnt fuel but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Thank you to the FFD company I can now pull this 15500lb 5th wheel at highway speeds up and down hills in 5th with no problem and egt's stay under 1000 even uphill with the new kc turbo drop in.

Truck definitely gets up and moves better, and overall all I am glad I chose the Hydra Chip. But if I hold truck to the floor board, engine light comes on and transmission shifts up and down several times. If I drive normal every thing works good, just can hold it to the floor even on 40hp tune. Called PHP and guy on phone said I needed to buy custom tunes to resolve shifting problem and my HPOP was weak. Truck has 66,000 miles I doubt HPOP is week. Seems to be a issue with chips demanding more than a stock truck can Handel, some chips mask these engine codes. They should disclose this in there advertising. The support guy was helpful but not overly concerned with my issue. Not what I expected from such a highly rated company.
