The Fluidampr 720211 is a performance viscous harmonic damper engineered specifically for 1999–2003 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks, 2000–2003 Ford Excursions, and 1999–2003 Ford E-Series vans equipped with the 7.3L Powerstroke diesel engine. Precision-machined in the USA from high-strength forged steel and finished in a corrosion-resistant black zinc chromate coating, this viscous damper features a free-floating steel inertia ring suspended inside a laser-welded housing filled with high-shear silicone fluid. Unlike factory elastomer balancers that are tuned to combat torsional crankshaft vibrations only across a narrow stock RPM window, the Fluidampr continuously self-tunes in real time across the entire RPM band. Certified to SFI 18.1 safety specifications, it delivers lifetime harmonic vibration control that will not degrade, dry out, or require periodic rebuilding.
Crankshaft snout stress fractures, accelerated main and rod bearing wear, loose flywheel or flexplate hardware, front accessory belt chatter, valvetrain instability at elevated RPMs, and slipped or cracked rubber inertia rings on aged OEM balancers are what this performance viscous damper eliminates. When a 7.3L Powerstroke is modified with performance tuning, upgraded injectors, or subjected to continuous heavy towing, peak cylinder pressures increase significantly, transmitting destructive torsional shockwaves straight through the forged crankshaft. The factory rubber-bonded balancer can delaminate, slip out of balance, or fail to dissipate these amplified harmonics, robbing usable horsepower and risking catastrophic bottom-end engine damage. The Fluidampr 720211 controls these harmonic spikes across every cylinder firing cycle, freeing up lost torque, smoothing out engine idle and transmission lockup, and extending the service life of internal bearings, timing gears, and oil pump gears. It is an externally balanced viscous damper with a single crankshaft keyway and engraved timing mark; replacement crankshaft snout bolts (Ford F4TZ-6A340-A) and front main crankshaft oil seals are sold separately.
It fits all Late 1999 (engines built after 12/07/1998) through 2003 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks, 2000–2003 Ford Excursions, and 1999–2003 Ford E-250, E-350, and E-450 Econoline vans equipped with the 7.3L Powerstroke turbo diesel engine (externally balanced; for 1994–1997 OBS 7.3L applications, see Fluidampr 720221).

Install: Park the truck on a level surface, set the emergency brake, and disconnect both negative battery cables. Relieve tension on the serpentine drive belt using a 1/2-inch drive breaker bar on the belt tensioner and remove the belt. Remove the upper cooling fan shroud and unthread the mechanical fan clutch from the water pump pulley using a 7.3L fan clutch wrench set to clear working room in front of the engine block. Remove the center crankshaft damper bolt and thick washer using an impact socket. Thread a three-bolt harmonic balancer puller tool directly into the threaded holes on the balancer hub (never use a two- or three-jaw puller hooked around the outer ring, as this will tear the inertia ring and damage the crankshaft snout). Slowly draw the factory balancer off the crankshaft snout and remove it from the engine compartment. Thoroughly inspect the crankshaft snout, woodruff key, and front main timing cover seal for oil leaks, scoring, or burrs; clean the snout surface with a Scotch-Brite pad and brake cleaner (replace the front main seal if any oil weeping is present). Align the internal keyway of the Fluidampr 720211 with the crankshaft woodruff key. Using a dedicated harmonic balancer installation tool, press the Fluidampr fully onto the snout until it seats completely against the timing gear shoulder (never hammer the damper onto the crank or use the crank bolt to pull it on, as this will strip the internal crankshaft threads). Coat the threads and washer face of a new OEM crank bolt (Ford F4TZ-6A340-A) with clean engine oil, thread it into the snout, and torque to 212 ft-lbs (287 Nm) using a calibrated torque wrench. Reinstall the cooling fan clutch, fan shroud, and 8-rib serpentine belt, reconnect both negative battery cables, and start the engine to confirm smooth idle tracking and zero belt or pulley runout.
