The Ford 3C3Z-9C273-AA Fuel Return Line Tube Assembly is a genuine Motorcraft/Ford OEM replacement fuel line engineered specifically for early-build 2003–2004 Ford Super Duty trucks and Excursions equipped with the 6.0L Powerstroke diesel engine. Connecting the secondary engine valley fuel filter housing directly to the chassis frame return circuit, this pre-formed, heavy-duty rigid steel line ensures secure, leak-free fuel return routing, factory-calibrated fuel pressure regulation, and protection against fuel drain-back.

    Quick Specs & Kit Inclusions

    • Application: Engine valley secondary fuel filter bowl to chassis frame line fuel return assembly
    • Build Date Fitment: Early-build 2003–2004 models (engines equipped with round EGR cooler and early fuel bowl configuration)
    • Material Construction: Heavy-gauge, zinc-chromate treated steel tubing for corrosion resistance against ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) and road brine
    • End Fittings: Precision-formed factory tube flare nuts and quick-connect terminations
    • Manufacturing Standard: Genuine Ford Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) component
    • Emissions Status: 50-state legal (direct OE mechanical replacement)
    • Direct Interchange Part Numbers: Ford 3C3Z-9C273-AA, Motorcraft 3C3Z9C273AA
    • What's in the Box: (1) Genuine Ford 3C3Z-9C273-AA Fuel Return Line Tube Assembly

Problem Solved: Curing Fuel Leaks, Air Intrusion & Valley Pooling

On early 6.0L Powerstrokes, the rigid fuel return line runs through tight clearances in the engine valley where it is subjected to constant engine vibration, heat cycling, and multiple fuel filter service cycles. Over time, the factory line is susceptible to hairline stress cracking, flare nut cross-threading, or severe corrosion from road salts and moisture trapped in the valley. A damaged or improperly seated return line causes continuous diesel fuel weeping into the valley and down the rear of the engine block, creating strong fuel vapors and fire hazards. Furthermore, cracked flare seats allow air into the low-pressure fuel return system during key-off, resulting in fuel drain-back, extended crank times, and hard-start conditions. Installing the genuine Ford 3C3Z-9C273-AA restores leak-free fuel return with pre-bent factory accuracy.

    Fitment

    • 2003–2004 Ford F-250 Super Duty 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel (Early Build)
    • 2003–2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel (Early Build)
    • 2003–2004 Ford F-450 Super Duty 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel (Early Build)
    • 2003–2004 Ford F-550 Super Duty 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel (Early Build)
    • 2003–2004 Ford Excursion 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel (Early Build)
    • Fitment Note: Specifically engineered for early 2003 to early 2004 6.0L engines; will not fit late 2004.5–2007 models with the square EGR cooler and redesigned dual filter housing (which use late-style return lines).

Safety & Depressurization: Park on level ground, turn off the ignition, and disconnect both negative battery cables. Slowly crack open the secondary engine-valley fuel filter cap (24mm socket) a few turns to relieve residual pressure in the secondary fuel system. Access & Line Removal: Place absorbent shop towels beneath the secondary fuel bowl to catch residual diesel. Using a line wrench (flare nut wrench), carefully unthread the threaded flare nut at the fuel filter housing connection. Release the chassis frame-side connection fitting and maneuver the old return tube out of the engine bay. Mating Port Inspection: Clean the female threaded port on the fuel bowl and the frame junction using brake cleaner and a lint-free cloth. Inspect the internal sealing cone to verify no metal burrs, debris, or old cross-thread damage are present. Pre-Fitting & Hand-Threading: Route the new Ford 3C3Z-9C273-AA tube into position by hand. Thread the line nuts into their respective ports several full turns by hand to ensure proper, square thread engagement. (Never use a tool to force or cross-thread the fittings into the aluminum fuel bowl housing). Torque Target: Once hand-snug and properly aligned, use a line wrench to tighten the threaded tube fitting to 15–18 ft-lbs (20–24 Nm). Do not over-torque, as over-tightening can flare-split the tube seat. Filter Cap Torquing: Retighten the secondary fuel filter cap securely to 19 ft-lbs (25 Nm). Priming & Leak Verification: Reconnect both negative battery cables. Turn the ignition key to the "RUN" position for 30 seconds without cranking the starter to allow the HFCM lift pump to fill the system and purge air. Repeat 3 to 4 times. Inspect both tube connections for any sign of fuel seepage before starting the engine
