The Ford 6C3Z-9B249-A Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module (HFCM) Water Separator Faceplate (Manifold Cover) is a genuine Motorcraft/Ford OEM replacement service assembly engineered specifically for 2003–2007 Ford Super Duty trucks and Excursions equipped with the 6.0L Powerstroke diesel engine. Precision cast and machined to factory tolerances, this complete front manifold plate replaces cracked covers, stripped drain ports, and corroded water-in-fuel (WIF) sensor housings to restore leak-free primary fuel conditioning directly on the frame rail.

    Quick Specs & Kit Inclusions

    • Application: Chassis-mounted HFCM (Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module) water separator lower manifold faceplate
    • Material Construction: Heavy-duty, die-cast aluminum alloy engineered to resist road debris, vibration, and road salt corrosion
    • Pre-Installed Sensor: Includes factory water-in-fuel (WIF) conductivity sensor with factory 2-pin electrical connector
    • Drain Plug Interface: Equipped with the updated OE thumb-turn drain plug for clean, tool-free servicing
    • Sealing Interface: Includes factory molded perimeter elastomer gasket channel and replacement mounting hardware
    • Manufacturing Standard: Genuine Ford Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) component
    • Emissions Status: 50-state legal (direct OE replacement part)
    • Direct Interchange Part Numbers: Ford 6C3Z-9B249-A, Motorcraft 6C3Z9B249A, Navistar 1845183C92
    • What's in the Box: (1) Genuine Ford HFCM Manifold Faceplate with Integrated WIF Sensor, (1) Pre-Installed Upgraded Drain Plug, (1) Molded Perimeter Rubber Gasket, and (4) Mounting Bolts

Problem Solved: Curing Stripped Drain Ports, False WIF Lights & Fuel Leaks

Over years of exposure to harsh underbody road spray and routine servicing, the aluminum faceplate on the 6.0L Powerstroke HFCM suffers multiple severe failure modes. Overtightened or corroded drain plugs frequently strip the soft internal M14 aluminum threads, rendering the water separator undrainable or creating continuous fuel puddles under the truck. Additionally, road salt causes galvanic corrosion around the brass water-in-fuel (WIF) sensor prongs, leading to false "Water In Fuel" dashboard warning lights or complete sensor failure. Hairline cracking around the perimeter bolt bosses also allows air intrusion into the low-pressure suction side of the fuel pump. The genuine Ford 6C3Z-9B249-A faceplate cures all these issues in a single bolt-on assembly without requiring the replacement of the entire, costly HFCM pump module.

Safety & Workspace Setup: Park the truck on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect both negative battery cables. Position a large drain pan directly beneath the HFCM mounted on the inside of the driver-side frame rail. Fuel Evacuation: Open the existing HFCM drain plug to drain standing water and diesel fuel completely. Remove the 36mm primary fuel filter cap and element to allow residual fuel in the housing to evacuate. Disconnection & Removal: Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the water-in-fuel (WIF) sensor. Using a T27 Torx driver or 8mm socket (depending on hardware variant), remove the four perimeter retaining bolts securing the manifold faceplate to the main pump housing. Carefully pry the old faceplate away from the body. Housing Preparation: Thoroughly clean the mating flange on the HFCM pump body using brake cleaner and lint-free shop towels. Inspect the machined channel and mating face to ensure no corrosion pits, dirt, or residual gasket material remain. Gasket & Plate Installation: Ensure the new perimeter rubber seal is seated cleanly and squarely inside the grooved channel of the new Ford 6C3Z-9B249-A faceplate without twisting. Align the faceplate squarely against the HFCM housing face. Torque Target: Install the four new mounting bolts by hand to ensure proper thread alignment. Using a 1/4-inch drive torque wrench, tighten the bolts in an alternating crisscross pattern to 45–55 in-lbs (5–6 Nm). Do not over-torque, as the aluminum pump body threads can strip under excessive leverage. Reconnection & Drain Check: Reconnect the WIF wiring harness plug until the locking tab clicks into place. Confirm that the pre-installed drain plug is snug hand-tight. Reinstall the primary fuel filter element and torque the 36mm filter cap to 19 ft-lbs (25 Nm). Priming & Leak Verification: Reconnect battery terminals. Turn the ignition key to the "RUN" position for 30 seconds without cranking to let the electric fuel pump pressurize the module and purge air. Repeat 4 to 5 times. Inspect the entire perimeter seam and drain plug for complete, leak-free operation before starting the engine.
