The original 6.0L turbo manufacturer's own upgrade.

The Garrett PowerMax GT3788VA Stage 1 is a drop-in performance turbocharger for 2003 and early 2004 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke trucks. Garrett built the factory turbo for the 6.0L, and the PowerMax applies that experience to a larger, more efficient design. It delivers improved throttle response, lower exhaust gas temperatures and more airflow, whether you're replacing a failing factory turbo or upgrading for towing and performance.

    Garrett's patented AVNT technology.

The PowerMax uses Garrett's patented Advanced Variable Nozzle Turbine (AVNT) design for increased compressor flow and boost response. Nine movable vanes significantly improve turbine efficiency and engine performance from idle launch through peak torque. Garrett's patented integral electro-hydraulic actuation and proportional solenoid provide infinitely variable boost control.

    Bigger wheel, lower turbo speeds.

A larger compressor wheel than stock increases the maximum power range while keeping turbo speeds down at the same power output. That means more headroom and less strain on the turbo.

    Key Features

    • Garrett GT3788VA Stage 1 performance turbocharger
    • Patented Advanced Variable Nozzle Turbine (AVNT) design
    • Nine movable vanes for efficiency from idle through peak torque
    • Integral electro-hydraulic actuation and proportional solenoid
    • 64mm inducer / 88mm exducer compressor wheel
    • 73mm inducer / 66mm exducer turbine wheel
    • Supports up to 560 hp (estimated)
    • Direct drop-in replacement for the early 6.0L turbo
    • Fits 2003 and early 2004 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty with the 6.0L Powerstroke

    What Problem Does This Solve?

    • A failing factory turbo. If your stock turbo is worn out, leaking or losing boost, the PowerMax replaces it with an OE-manufacturer upgrade instead of an identical stock unit.
    • Running out of airflow. Once you add tuning or performance injectors, the stock turbo can limit power and push exhaust temperatures higher. The PowerMax's larger compressor wheel provides more airflow while keeping turbo speeds down.
    • Slow boost response when towing. The AVNT's nine-vane design improves turbine efficiency from idle launch through peak torque, for better response under load.

Is This Turbo Right for You?

The PowerMax is a strong choice for early 6.0L owners replacing a failed turbo who want more power and efficiency, or for modified trucks that have outgrown the stock turbo. It's well suited to towing, daily driving and moderate performance builds.

    Fitment

This turbo fits 2003 and early 2004 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke trucks with engines built before 9/22/2003. Trucks built on or after that date (2004.5–2007) require Garrett PowerMax part #772441-5002S. Check your engine build date or the part number on your existing turbo before ordering.

    Important Note

Garrett states that its Performance Kits are not legal for use on public roads, and that the installer is responsible for compliance with all applicable emissions and vehicle laws. Not available for sale in California.

Nice turbo. A recent 1200 mile trip with it and am satisfied. It would be nice if new gaskets and o rings were included with the new turbo though.
