The BD 1027144 is a remote-mount exhaust brake for a 1999–2003 7.3 Powerstroke. It goes in the 4-inch pipe, not on the turbo. The turbo-mount kit is 2023144. This one is for a truck that already has an aftermarket turbo and cannot use the factory elbow.

The housing is cast iron, 4 inches, with BD’s variable-orifice butterfly. Open, it does not sit in the exhaust stream. It is air-actuated, and the compressor is in the kit. BD lists up to about 150 retarding horsepower. An automatic needs an AutoLoc, or a lower-stall converter if it does not lock, or the engine falls to idle and the brake does nothing. A backpressure gauge kit, 1030050, is what BD wants used to set it. The warranty is 1 year or 12,000 miles. It cannot be shipped to California.

It fits 1999–2003 F-250 and F-350 pickups. A 5-inch system has to neck down to this 4-inch brake.

If the turbo is still the factory elbow, the turbo-mount kit is the one that bolts on. This one needs 4-inch pipe to weld or clamp into.
