The genuine Ford ICP sensor for early 6.0L engines.

The Ford 3C3Z-9F838-A Injection Control Pressure (ICP) Sensor is a genuine Ford OE replacement for 2003 and early 2004 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke trucks. On these early engines, the ICP sensor is located behind the turbo, a hot, hard-to-reach spot that's tough on sensors. Because the engine computer relies on this sensor's signal to control injection, a genuine Ford sensor gives you factory-calibrated accuracy right out of the box.

    What the ICP sensor does.

The 6.0L uses high-pressure engine oil to fire its injectors. The ICP sensor measures that oil pressure and reports it to the engine computer, which uses the reading to control injection. The computer then commands the IPR valve to raise or lower pressure as needed. If the sensor sends a bad reading, the whole system works from the wrong information.

    Key Features

    • Genuine Ford OEM part
    • Factory fit, function and calibration
    • Correct early-style sensor for the location behind the turbo
    • Interchanges with Ford 3C3Z-9F838-EA

    Fitment

    • 2003–early 2004 Ford F-Series Super Duty and Excursion 6.0L Powerstroke

Ford moved the ICP sensor to the passenger-side valve cover on late 2004–2007 engines. If your sensor is on the passenger-side valve cover, you need the later-style sensor (Ford 4C3Z-9F838-A/B) instead.

    What Problem Does This Solve?

    • Hard starts and no-starts. A failed ICP sensor can report incorrect pressure, keeping the injectors from firing properly. A common field check: if the truck starts with the ICP sensor unplugged, the sensor has likely failed.
    • Rough idle, surging and stalling. Bad ICP data can cause the engine computer to over- or under-command pressure, leading to rough idle, surging and stalling.
    • ICP trouble codes. A failing sensor commonly sets codes such as P2284 (ICP sensor performance/range) and P2285 (ICP sensor circuit low), along with a check engine light.
    • Oil in the connector. ICP sensors can leak oil internally into the electrical connector and harness. If you find oil in the ICP connector, replace the sensor and inspect the pigtail as well.

    Why Choose Genuine Ford?

Because the early sensor is difficult to reach, you don't want to replace it twice. Low-cost aftermarket ICP sensors are known for inconsistent quality, and some owners report codes or early failures after installing them. A genuine Ford sensor is the safest way to get the job done right the first time.

    Installation Note

Access to the early ICP sensor is limited by the turbo. Many owners have this job done by a diesel technician, though experienced DIYers can complete it with the right tools.
